New Kindergarten Student Entrance Information

From the Principal, Elaine Simpson

Dear McPhee Students and Families,

Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year. It will be an exciting year of change as we move off-site to allow for renovations at the McPhee School building. Other changes this year include myself as the new Principal and Mrs. Mickey McDaniel as our new Assistant Principal. A few other staff changes have taken place as well. We look forward to a super year of learning for students as we work together through these changes.

At McPhee Elementary School, we believe that all students can learn, perform and behave at grade level or above and that it is the responsibility of all adults in a child’s life to help them achieve this goal. Every thing we do at school every day and all the decisions we make are always based on this belief. We know if we work hard as a team, we can help each child reach this goal. It is hard work, but we know we can do it together. Thank you for partnering with us this year to help all students learn, perform and behave at grade level or above.

Our Community Learning Center is one resource to help us achieve this goal. It provides programs for McPhee students and families before and after school, as well as in the evenings and during the summer. Our Community Learning Center works to increase student achievement, to support families and to build stronger neighborhoods. During this year of renovation, the McPhee Community Learning Center will be housed at First Presbyterian Church. The director, Rick Lingard, can answer any questions you have about this program.

The McPhee staff will start the school year looking at academic achievement data from the previous year and determining School Improvement goals for 2011-2012. Please watch for more information about these learning goals and how we can work together to help all students learn and perform at grade level or above.

Our school-wide behavior management plan, Behavior Intervention Support Team, will increase student learning time and lead to higher levels of academic success. B.I.S.T. teaches life skills that help children be successful in school and in life. Thanks for your support of your child’s learning and behavior by supporting our use of B.I.S.T.

Finally, please consider joining the McPhee PTA and volunteering in your child’s classroom. We look forward to seeing you at Open House, Curriculum Night, PTA meetings, Family Nights and Parent Teacher Conferences. By working together we can help all McPhee students learn, perform and behave at grade level or above in 2011-2012!

Sincerely,

Elaine Simpson

McPhee Principal

Thank You Miss Nebraska!

On Monday, December 12th, Miss Nebraska, Kayla Batt, visited McPhee. McPhee was one of 20 schools she visited to present her "Make Music Rock" platform. "Make Music Rock" pertains to learning in science and math, adding music to the mix.
